The Immigration & Emigration Unit consists of FIAT Counsel who are entrusted to appear and conduct prosecutions in the Magistrates’ Courts and High Courts representing the Hon. Attorney General.

As FIAT Counsel, the Attorneys-at-Law attached to this unit process notes of investigations and experts reports with the view to decide on institution of Criminal Proceedings in relation to offences under the Immigration and Emigration Act, Human Trafficking, Human Smuggling and matters in relation to Foreign Fishing Vessels Act.

Furthermore, the Counsel of the Immigration & Emigration Unit engage in advising and supervising the Police Department, Sri Lanka Navy, Immigration and Emigration Department and Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources appurtenant to Immigration & Emigration matters.
